The challenge

Two visits.
Reliable connections.

Teams first listed structures and households, then returned for detailed interviews with selected households. The system needed to preserve those connections across sampling, assignments and field collection, including work with limited connectivity.

My contribution

The system
behind the fieldwork.

I designed both survey instruments and the workflow connecting them. My work covered Survey123/XLSForm development, workflow configuration, testing and field deployment support, with ArcGIS Notebooks and Python supporting automated sampling and assignments.

How the system connects

From listing
to monitoring.

Four stages from the full workflow. The downloadable case study includes the implementation details and anonymized examples.

  1. 01

    List & screen

Record structures, households, GPS and functional or disability screening during the first visit.

  2. 02

    Validate & sample

Check completed enumeration-area listings, then apply the agreed household-sampling rules.

  3. 03

    Assign & prefill

Deliver team-specific assignment files with links that open the main survey with household details prefilled.

  4. 04

    Interview & monitor

Collect detailed interviews using household-member repeats and conditional questions; synchronize and monitor field activity.

What was delivered

A connected
field-survey system.

Listing and interview instruments, automated sampling and assignments, prefilled main-survey links, conditional interview sections and a regional monitoring view.

The workflow supported coordinated handovers and reduced repeat entry. The full PDF explains the approach, tools and field process.
